fees and terms

£20 per individual half hour lesson. (from September 2020 - in line with average ISM rates)

Five lessons (£100) are payable in advance.
A note of lessons received is recorded in the student's practice diary.

Lessons generally take place in school terms although lessons are available in the holidays if required.

Teaching takes place in a private teaching room*

Missed lessons
If an appointment cannot be kept, lessons can be rescheduled either for the same day or for an alternative day. Another option is to receive an hour lesson later on in the term to make up for the missed lesson.

The Hour Lesson: Advantages of the hour lesson
An occasional longer lesson can be very beneficial for the following reasons:
  • It enables detailed work on the supporting examination tests like aural training, sight-reading, musical knowledge or improvisation.
  • The extra time can be used to explore new music, introducing the student to new styles.
  • Improvisation and composition can be explored in greater depth.
  • Technical exercises and studies can be worked on. The student can study new creative ways to practice and techniques to maximise progress.
  • Examination or performance preparation, i.e. mock exam and staged concert rehearsal.

For advanced students, an hour lesson is often preferable, either every week or every two weeks.

Other information
Please enquire about group tuition. This is sometimes possible if two or more students are at a similar technical level.

*Parents or friends are welcome to wait in a separate room or sit in on the lessons.
