ensemble directing
Nick Chamberlain has directed and conducted student groups since 2001. At present he conducts the South Area Guitar Ensemble and Birmingham Schools’ Guitar Ensemble (BSGE), an advanced student ensemble, age range 13 to 18.
Groups directed by Nick Chamberlain perform regularly throughout the year at Birmingham Symphony Hall, Elgar Hall, Ruddock Performing Arts Centre and Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. The Plucked String Orchestra (PSO) were invited to the National Music For Youth Festival three times and were awarded a ‘Highly Commended’ in the 2005 festival.
Nick has organized workshops for student guitarists including a workshop day with The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain and A Celebration of the Guitar involving eight professional groups. He has also event managed several guitar days for younger pupils. In March 2008 he organised a guitar day for Sefton Schools’ Music Service.
